Helen Aldous - Creative Director
With a Graphic Design CV as long as your arm, Helen is the creative power behind Sputnik. She is also responsible for online marketing, Pay-Per-Click advertising and SEO know-how.
Despite being a proper Northern lass, after graduating with her Graphic Design degree, she moved to London to cut her teeth treading the Design Agency boards for a few years. Then, drawn by the irrestible charms of the Pennines, she winged her way back up North and began specialising in Web Design.
History was made in 2000 when the dot com bubble burst and Helen faced redundancy. With no intention of taking it lying down Helen set up Sputnik New Media. Immediately, business was good and she never looked back. A few years later, after Doug came on board, Sputnik New Media became Sputnik Ltd.
In her [somewhat infrequent] spare time she enjoys indulging in creative art of all types, from illustration to screen printing. In early 2009 she launched her own online art shop to sell her screen printing creations and also exhibits her work regularly in galleries around the country.
Doug Scard - Technical Director
Doug's computer experience goes all the way back to the Sinclair ZX81 (that's 1981, folks!). He got his Masters degree at Leeds in 1995 and promptly set up a service industry company commissioning one of the internet's first ever websites back in 1996.
Doug began concentrating on web development in 2001, and in 2003 he enrolled in the school of hard knocks and worked for a small e-commerce company, single-handedly running their entire web design and development department.
In 2005 Doug joined Helen in Sputnik to expand the company's portfolio of services and skills. He is the chap who figures out the best technical solutions to every given project. He also tends to be the guy you are likely to meet at Networking events and when he calls into your office to discuss your project.
However, Doug is not 100% pure Geek; he is an accomplished musician and whenever he can squeeze a little spare time between his work, home and fatherly duties, he currently plays bass guitar in a few bands ranging from Jazz to Motown with just a touch of camp Disco.
