Why should I care if my site is accessible to people with disabilities?

Apart from the obvious fact that no one should be excluded from using a site by any disabilities they may have, there are some very sound business reasons for making sure everyone can use your site.

Government legislation means that by Law all businesses must be accessible to anyone with a disability. This doesnt just apply to the business premises but extends to the website too, so in theory you could be breaking the law by not having an accessible website.

People with disabilities may find it harder to leave the house to shop and so are a huge and growing audience for accessing your services from home. Therefore making sure your site caters for them is a wise business move.

Last but not least, coding your site with the visually disabled in mind means that the code is also well crafted for search engine robots who will navigate the site in exactly the same way as someone using a text-only browser and screen reader. So making your site work well for the blind or partially sighted also helps your search engine rankings.
